St-Mathieu is situated on the frontier between the town of Bernex and the countryside. To the north, the fields extend towards the Rhone and further towards the Jura. To the south, a remnant of the agricultural bocage; defined by a wooded strip of oak trees, sets the houses apart from the Boulevard de Chancy. The buildings are organised around a central park, while the pedestrian promenade functions as a link between the public spaces of the district; while promoting the rich past of St-Mathieu by highlighting historic archaeological landmarks.
